FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between the standard 36 volt golf car and the more modern 48 volt golf car?
The 48 volt golf car does not go any faster than the 36 volt car.  The 48 volt car has more torque and is better suited to climb hills.  The 48 volt car has more endurance, and is able to go twice as far on a charge.  The batteries on a 48 volt car also last longer, because the car works more efficiently.

When should I replace the Batteries?
Batteries last from 2-4 years under normal circumstances. There are six (6) Batteries in the average golf car. When they are replaced they should be replaced in a complete set.

Do I need to check that the car is fully charged?
Most of today's chargers are fully automatic, which means they will discontinue charging when the batteries are at full capacity. Golf cars use special chargers that have a matched output to the golf car electrical system. Never use a charger that is not made for a golf car.

Maintenance Tips

Battery Care Basics

Battery Water Level

Batteries should be kept clean and free of corrosion.
Make sure the terminals are tightened periodically.
Spray the terminals with battery protector spray, to prevent          corrosion.
The battery water level is critical to the life of the system.
The level of water should be maintained between 1/2 to 1 inch above the plates.
Use distilled water, it contains a minimum of minerals which can harm the battery plates.

Maintain Your Tires

Body and Chassis

Tires should maintain air pressure of  22 lbs per square inch.
Regular tire maintenance will avoid excess and uneven wear, which makes for easier steering and longer tire life.

The body of your golf car should be washed monthly and waxed quarterly, using automotive wash and wax products.
Periodic inspection of battery trays and the frame is recommended.

Lubrication

The Brakes

Although there are very few points of lubrication on an electric
golf car, they are very important.
The front suspension should be greased and lubricated yearly.
The fluid in rear-end housing should be checked yearly.   Checking this level
can be difficult and should be done by a golf car service technician.

The mechanical brake system of your golf  requires an annual check up.
Braking system service should be performed by a golf car service technician.

Gasoline Engines

Gasoline Engines require a annual  tune up.  The lubricating oil must be changed, along with oil filter and air filter.  The spark plugs should also be changed. at this time.
